Country where Day starts with Weather Forecast

I was surprised by how the people in US keep following the weather forecasts on a daily basis. The day starts with hearing the forecast for the day either through the TV, radio, newspaper, or even in internet.

Always used to wonder why weather need to be one of the contents on the igoogle homepage. After reading ‘If it’s Raining in Brazil, Buy Starbucks’ I concluded that weather content is for those analysts who follow on the agriculture and its related stocks. But that lead to another question is whether the weather information is correct for the necessary conclusion?

For us in India, the weather reports in the newspaper/ TV is because of some statutory obligation. No one even bother to look into that section. Even if it’s looked into hardly 10 -20% cases the prediction would coincide with the actual.

In gulf, temperatures are followed on and emphasis is given in the months of June – September. Yet another statutory obligation, for the employers to give day off to the labourers in case the temperature sore above 50C. I have rarely seen it crossing it even in July/ August in newspaper when the actuals may be much higher.

In US, the daily trips are decided based on the forecast. The level of accuracy of is also between 98-100%. That’s shows the trust, which the society has in the country’s infrastructure and reports.

Hope so there will be a day soon when we in India can plan our trips based on the reports from Indian Meteoritical Institute :)
